Inmarsat
plans to stop the EPIRB (german text)
The Inmarsat EPIRB Bake global-3 is a emergency transmitter, working
with geostationary satellites of the Inmarsat systems. With the continuous
contact to the satellites a fast alarm in an emergency is guaranteed.Compared
to the EPIRB-systems, using the Cospas Sarsat , the INMARSAT EPIRB has
an extremely short alarm time. The exact position of the damaged ship is
transmitted with the built-in GPS-receiver. Also a beacon transmitter is
integrated on the 121,5 MHz frequency to ease the search in a close range
around the vessel.
With these standards, the global-3 is the most important safety device
in an emergency.
The INMARSAT EPIRB global-3 doesn´t need additional programming.
The instrument can easyly be mounted on all kinds of vessels.
- 1,6 GHz GPIRB beacon developed due to INMARSAT-E Standards
- with Flash
- compact, lightweight and rugged construction in a Polycarbon-housing
- waterproof and floatable design
- easy operation with automatically or manually release.
- built-in self test
- Lithium-battery, storage: 5 years
When the ship sinks, the EPIRB is automatically activated, with the
optional operating unit, or it can be manually released.
Technical data:
- Amount of data in an emergency call: Individual signature (system
code), position data, course and speed, datum and time (UTC), kind of emergency
(only, when the RCU is in use)
- Temperature range -20°C to +55°C
- Operating time after releasing: min. 48 hours, typically 72 hours
- Water- / pressure proof up to a depth of 10m
- Operating range: worldwide, without the poles. 97% of the earth´s
surface.
- Time between releasing and alarm: 3-10 minutes
- Releasing methods:
1. Automatically, when the vessel sinks
2. Remote control (when the operating unit RCU is used)
3. Manually
- Weight 1300 gramms
