Replaced by the Mastervolt Magic DC-DC converter series. The main functions are: either to convert the 24 V from the onboard power system to supply 12 V consumers, such as navigation and communication equipment, or to stabilise the 12 V or 24 V onboard system. With the Mastervolt converter you can opt for a 24 V main battery in any situation, without limiting your use of 12 V appliances. Mastervolt also offers converters, that can change 12 V into 24 V as well as functioning as voltage stabiliser. Using a Mastervolt converter eliminates the need of a so called linear converter. The linear method has a low efficiency (<50%), limited safety for connected appliances and a poor quality DC output voltage. In contrast, Mastervolt´s "Switch-Mode"- (High frequency switching technique) ensures your power system is much safer, more reliable and efficient. Mastervolt recommends using a 24 V system on all vessels of 13 m or longer. using 24 V means the cables can be thinner (leighter in weight and lower in costs), improves output and allows the installation of heavy duty power consumers, such as a bow propeller. Advantages:
Simple converter models have a common connection to earth. Mastervolt offers so-called galvanic isolated converters. They isolate both, in the DC Plus and the DC Negative line. So the battery is completely isolated from the load. This means safety for the system, and prevents from distubances, wich can be transmitted over the Minus cables.
