The new generation of GARMIN Outdoor- navigation instruments. Or simply "The Tricorder"

Out of production in 2007, replaced by the Garmin 76CSx.

It is just the right instrument for marine as well as mountains.The advantages of the marine handheld instrument GPSmap 76, with 24 Mbyte memory capacity indeed, are combined with the advantages of the eTrex Summit, which are the electronic compass and the barometric altimeter.

GPSMAP 76S Europe is not only waterproof, but also floatable; it has all important acoustic alarm functiones, e.g. MOB, anchor, proximity.

Many new functiones enormously enlarge the user`s possibilities.

There is an inbuilt data memory of 24 MByte charts - e.g. Garmins MetroGuide DVD. Detailed international base map with main roads / rivers / lakes. Marine data base with nautical navaids like lights, beacons.

It operates 10 hours with only two Mignon - batteries. 
There are connections for an external active antenna and power supply.

- Built-in Trip-Computer with odometer, stopwatch, average data, times and speeds.

- Saves 10000 trackpoints, 1000 waypoints and 50 routes with up to 49 Waypoints each.

- Akoustic alarm functiones: cross track error, proximity waypoint, arrival, anchor drag, depths, shallows.

- The innovative TracBack- function automatically records the waypoints to retrace the path of travel to the starting point safe and fast.

Detailed technical data:

Receiver: PhaseTrac12: 12 channell-parallel receiver, DGPS- enabled, receives and uses continuously up to 12 satellites to calculate the position. 

WAAS & EGNOS enabled for high accuracy.

Adjustable menu languages : german, english, french, italian, spanish, swedish, danish, portugese, dutch, norwegian, finnish, polish

Acquisition time:
- Warm start: approx. 15 seconds
- Cold start: approx. 45 seconds
- EZinit: approx. 45 seconds
- AutoLocate: approx. 2 minutes

Data calculation: continuously, 1 x per second

- Position: < 15 metres RMS 
- mit GARMIN GBR21 DGPS- Empfänger (optional),   3-5 metres
- With WAAS receiver < 3 metres
- Speed: 0,1 knots RMS

Temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit, if the information can be read with the NMEA Interface (e.g. from  Fishfinder)

Navigation options

C-Map Marine-Data base, worldwide towns and harbours, important nautical marks in europe with identification (Beacons, lights, foghorns etc.)

Waypoints: 1000, with name, symbol and one line for comments

 Proximity waypoints:10, with continuous automatic verification 

Routes: 50 reversible routes with 49 waypoints each, MOB- mode (Man over board) 

TracBack: creates automatically the way back from the recorded track

Acoustic alarm functions: cross track error, proximity waypoint, arrival, anchor drag, depths, shoals

Data base for the best fishing and hunting times, Calculations for sunset and sunrise. 

Map data:107, incl. WGS 84, Potsdam Datum, Austrian Datum, Swiss Datum and one user defined Datum
