IP code - waterproof

The IP code consist of two digits (IPxy) for the degree of protection. The first digit stands for contact protection and the second for water protection.

Here is a descpription of the code (without engagement)

1st number
protection against the contact of external solid bodies and against the access to dangerous parts

IP0y | IP1y | IP2y | IP3y | IP4y | IP5y | IP6y

2nd number
protection against the penetration of the liquids

IPx0 | IPx1 | IPx2 | IPx3| IPx4 | IPx5 | IPx6 | IPx7 | IPx8

IP0y - not protect

IP1y - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 50 mm.
Protect against the access with the back of the hand

IP2y - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 12 mm.
Protect against the access with a finger

IP3y - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 2.5 mm.
Protect against the access with a tool

IP4y - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 1 mm.
Protect against the access with a wire

IP5y - protect against dust.
dust can not damage the function and security

IP6y - totally dust protect. 
Protect against the access of dust



IPx0 - not protect

IPx1 - protect against the vertical fall of water drops

IPx2 - protect against the fall of water drops with inclination max of 15°

IPx3 - protect against the rain

IPx4 - protect against the water sprays

IPx5 - protect against water jets

IPx6 - protect against big waves

IPx7 - protect against the effects of the immersion

IPx8 - protected against the effects of the submersion
